FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- CryoPen™ Cryotherapy Skin Lesion Removal -

WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY?

Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy tissue. The process is called cryo-necrosis, tissue destruction by freezing.

HOW IS CRYOSURGERY BETTER THAN OTHER METHODS OF REMOVING SKIN LESIONS?

Cryotherapy requires no anaesthesia and has less scarring than other techniques of skin removal with minimal post-op care. Treatment time is very fast which means it can even be done in your lunch break.

HOW DOES THE CRYOPEN™ TREATMENT WORK?

The applicator is held as close as possible to the skin lesion for 1-30 seconds, depending on the size and depth of the lesion. After doing this twice for the lesion to reach the required temperature the treatment is complete.

CAN ANYONE HAVE CRYOTHERAPY?

People with high levels of cryoglobulins should be treated with caution. Clients with dark skin may not want to have cryotherapy as it can cause hyperpigmenation or hypopigmentation.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?

For most lesions, cryotherapy is a permanent removal. Some lesions may require more sessions but once the lesions is removed they should not return.

WILL THERE BE ANY SCARRING AFTER CRYOPEN TREATMENTS?

This does not normally occur. Darkening or lightening of the skin may occur temporarily. Both generally last for a few months. The pigment change is more commen in darker skin types.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?

Most lesions only require one session, but some lesions for example certain type of warts and verrucas are deep and may require several sessions.

WILL ACTIVITIES BE LIMITED AFTER CRYOPEN™ TREATMENTS?

There are no limitations on activity except to protect the area from abrasion.

HOW SOON CAN I GET STARTED?

If you are concerned if we can treat certain skin lesions then book a consultation with our skin experts and they can have a look at the lesion for you. If it is a skin tag or a light coloured wart or verruca then you can book a session straight away. But if you are in doubt, just book a consultation.
